Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for recognizing Pakistan’s efforts in counter-terrorism operations across the region.
The acknowledgement from President Trump came following the recent arrest of ISKP’s top-tier operational commander and Afghan national Shareefullah by Pakistan’s security forces. The successful operation took place near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the prime minister shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
During his first address to Congress since beginning his second term, President Trump revealed that the mastermind behind the 2021 attack that killed 13 US service members during the Afghanistan withdrawal had been arrested with Pakistan’s assistance. He confirmed that the suspect was being transferred to the United States to face justice.
“Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity…I want to thank especially the government of Pakistan for helping arrest this monster,” President Trump stated.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to fighting terrorism, emphasizing that the country has made immense sacrifices, including the loss of over 80,000 soldiers and civilians, in its efforts to eliminate terrorist threats.
He further assured that Pakistan would continue collaborating with the United States to promote regional peace and security, highlighting the country’s unwavering resolve in combating terrorism in all its forms.
