The National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) has introduced new toll charges for vehicles without an M-Tag, effective February 1, 2025. Motorists without an electronic tag—or those with insufficient balance—will have to pay an extra 25% on the standard toll fee, with a minimum surcharge of Rs50.
Authorities urge vehicle owners to get their M-Tags before January 31, as they are available for free. This initiative aims to reduce congestion, ensure smoother traffic flow, and transition towards a fully digital toll collection system.
Additionally, strict new motorway regulations have been implemented. To obtain an M-Tag, vehicle owners must present a valid fitness certificate, registration book, and driving license. To combat air pollution, vehicles older than 30 will be banned from motorways between October and January each year.
