Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai visited her native village, Barkana, in Shangla district on Wednesday, marking her first return since surviving a Taliban attack in 2012.
Accompanied by her parents, Malala travelled to the village via helicopter, where she reunited with relatives and engaged with local community members. During the visit, she explored a newly constructed school in the area, reflecting her dedication to education and women’s empowerment.
DIG Malakand Sher Akbar Khan confirmed the visit, which concluded with Malala returning to Islamabad.
Earlier in the week, Malala attended the International Conference on Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities in Islamabad, where she delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the importance of women’s education. Parliamentary Secretary Farah Naz and Press Information Department official Nergis Shazia Chaudhary bid farewell to her at Islamabad International Airport as she departed for London.
