Lockie Ferguson ruled out of Champions Trophy 2025 –

In a major setback for New Zealand, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the upcoming Champions Trophy due to a foot injury. The announcement came just before the tournament opener against hosts Pakistan, as Ferguson experienced pain in his right foot following a warm-up match against Afghanistan on Sunday. An initial medical assessment confirmed that the 31-year-old will not be fit to participate in the tournament.

In response to the injury, New Zealand Cricket has decided to send Ferguson back home and bring in Canterbury Kings fast bowler Kyle Jamieson as his replacement. Jamieson, who recently returned to domestic cricket after recovering from a back stress fracture, will soon depart for Pakistan to join the team.

New Zealand’s head coach, Gary Stead, expressed his disappointment, saying, “We’re really disappointed for Lockie. He’s a key part of our bowling group and has a wealth of experience in major tournaments. We know how much he was looking forward to representing New Zealand in another big event.”

Stead also spoke positively about Jamieson’s inclusion, highlighting his pace and extra bounce, which will be beneficial in the conditions in Pakistan. “Kyle has been impressive since his return and has shown how effective he can be in the shorter formats. His pace and energy are exactly what we need, especially in such a crucial tournament.”

New Zealand is also without fast bowler Ben Sears, who is sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
