Lahore – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has approached the Lahore High Court (LHC) to request early hearings on his bail petitions in eight cases related to the May 9 incidents.
Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated, filed miscellaneous applications through his legal counsel, Barrister Salman Safdar. In his plea, he argued that he had been named in these cases as part of alleged political victimization against him and his party.
The petition noted that the last hearing on the bail applications was held on January 16, after which no date was set for further proceedings. Khan urged the court to fix an immediate hearing for his bail petitions, emphasizing that “justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.”
The cases stem from the violent protests that erupted on May 9 following Khan’s arrest, leading to widespread unrest and damage to public and military installations. Authorities have since pursued legal action against several PTI leaders and supporters in connection with the incidents.
The Lahore High Court is expected to review the request for an expedited hearing in the coming days.
