The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed a two-year ban on English cricketer Harry Brook from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after he withdrew from the upcoming season.
This development was revealed in a report by Indian media. Recently, Harry Brook announced that he would not participate in the 18th season of the IPL, which starts this month, as he wishes to focus entirely on international cricket.
The 26-year-old Brook had been purchased by the Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025. The 18th season of IPL is set to begin on March 22. In a statement on social media, Brook said, “I have made a very difficult decision not to participate in this year’s IPL season, and I apologize to Delhi Capitals.”
According to Indian media reports, due to his last-minute withdrawal, the IPL has imposed a two-year ban on Harry Brook from participating in future tournaments. This ban comes under the new IPL rule, which states that any foreign player who registers for the auction, is bought by a franchise, and then withdraws before the start of the season will face a two-season ban from the tournament.
The BCCI has reportedly informed both Harry Brook and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) of its decision to impose the two-year ban on the player. It is worth noting that Brook had also canceled his contract with the Delhi Capitals in the previous season.
