The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing has taken significant steps in the case involving the circulation of fake videos targeting Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The videos, which were allegedly generated using AI technology, have caused a stir, and the FIA has now launched action against the individuals responsible.
Shahbaz Gill, a prominent figure in the case, has been issued a notice to block his passport, with the Cyber Crime Wing writing a letter for the action. A formal case has already been registered against Gill for uploading the misleading videos. Additionally, the FIA has started proceedings to have Gill and fellow suspect, journalist Imran Riaz, declared fugitives. The two are being sought for their involvement in spreading the fake content.
FIA officials confirmed that efforts are underway to bring both suspects back to Pakistan. They are being targeted for their role in disseminating AI-generated fake videos that falsely involved Maryam Nawaz and the President of the UAE.
The FIA has expressed its intention to block the passports of both Gill and Riaz, effectively preventing their travel. Officials also stated that once declared fugitives, the suspects will be pursued to ensure their return to Pakistan for further investigation.
