Pakistan has confirmed its first case of Monkeypox (also known as mpox) for the year 2025. The Ministry of Health announced that the patient, who had recently returned from Dubai on January 24, tested positive for the virus after being screened at Peshawar airport.
According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, this latest case brings the total number of Monkeypox infections in Pakistan to 10 since the declaration of a health emergency. The patient, whose identity has not been disclosed, was promptly transferred to Services Hospital Peshawar for treatment and is currently receiving care.
The patient’s travel history shows connections to Gulf countries, raising concerns about the potential spread of the virus across international borders.
